Editor, Times-Union: Sound the alarm! “The Romneys” are coming! With national elections on the horizon, warning bells are ringing against legions of toxic talkers. Poisonous purveyors of right-wing diatribe ... toxic talkers like Glen Beck, Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh and femme fatal Sarah Palin are each being microscopically exposed. But, what’s the truth?
Once upon a long time ago, a confused Pontius Pilate asked Jesus, “What is truth?” Given the answer, Pilate preferred to believe like most people that truth is relative, not absolute as Jesus claimed. Who’s right?
For consideration, are politicians right, left and middler tellers of truth? Or are journalists, editors and letter writers? Consider also those Hollywood paragons of virtue, are those stars not above reproach? For deliberation, does the end (winning) justify whatever means of fabrication found necessary to steal an election? If you’re a “truth is relative” believing pro-abortion democrat liberal, winning by whatever the means of deception is not only permissible, it’s as necessary as breathing. If, sadly, you’re one of those nearly extinct pro-life Dems or rarer yet a pro-abort Republican, you’re “absolutely” in the wrong party.
You may also be at the wrong church if your beliefs, practices and promotes “social justice” as President Obama’s church of 20 years does. Obama’s pastor, Jeremiah Wright, as well as his top religious advisor Jim Wallis believe social justice “calls for the redistribution of wealth.” Wallis says, “The Bible doesn’t mind prosperity as long as it is shared.” Sounds good but what’s the truth? God’s word (Jesus) teaches voluntary distribution of wealth without coercion. For example, the parable of the “Good Samaritan”, who, motivated by personal compassion, voluntarily gave time and treasure to assist a half dead deserted robbery victim. By contrast, involuntary redistribution of wealth by government is nothing more than legalized theft. Obama’s, Wright’s and Willis’ views are based more on the class warfare and envy in violation of the 10th Commandment.
Raving about social justice’s mandate to redistribute wealth from “the haves” to “the have nots,” President Obama is often prompted to expound on “fairness.” With a second term and four more years looming on the horizon, picture billions more of taxpayer money invested in the creation of a Federal Department of Redistribution and Fairness.
In the scenario of such a Department of Fairness, victims of unfairness would have a perfect place to submit our requests noting for example that our “lucky” neighbor located lakeside across the street has greener grass. They have a sprinkler system. We have not! They also have a pontoon, two cars also. We have not! Furthermore, they have a pedigree pooch. We have not! It just ain’t fair, is it?
Sounding the alarm one last time on a more serious note, Thomas Jefferson once warned, “Democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those willing to work and give to those who would not.” Thankfully, there still remains a remnant of truth teller like Glen, Sean, Rush, and Palin. There’s always hope! God’s in control!
