NAPPANEE - Before Thursday's Northern Lakes Conference golf match had ended, Warsaw coach Bob Turner lamented how the outstanding performance by one girl would be enough to beat his team.
Goshen's Inga Snyder proved Turner right, as she fired a school record 34 at McCormick Creek Golf Course. McCormick Creek, by the way, is a par 36 course. Goshen won with a 182 and was followed by Warsaw with 200 and NorthWood with 211. Goshen and Warsaw are expected to finish with the top two records in the NLC.
Snyder birdied two holes and parred five others. She finished one stroke over on one hole. Her previous best score was a 37 at Black Squirrel Golf Course.
But Warsaw's Tricia Suchecki turned in the best performance on one hole. She had an eagle on a chip-in on the sixth hole, a par five. She finished with a 45 as she parred the second and ninth holes.
Warsaw teammate Julie Arnold parred the fifth and sixth holes and finished with a 48. Amy Landis parred the fourth hole and finished with a 52. She shot much better than her score indicates, but she had trouble on one hole. Take away her 11 strokes on the final hole, and she goes from a good score to a very good score. Landis was also golfing in the No. 1 spot, meaning she was golfing with Snyder. Turner compared golfing with Snyder to facing a pitcher who throws a no-hitter.
Brooke Westover's 55 and Ashley Cooper's 58 rounded out Warsaw's scoring. Cooper's score was dropped from the team total.
Michelle Taylor led NorthWood with a 46.
Amber Krebs added a 47, Lisa Robertson 50, Erin Sample 51
