MOREHEAD, Ky. - David Smith has been selected by audition to participate in the Morehead State University Symphony Band and Percussion Ensemble that will perform an eight-day concert tour in Spain.
The tour will be May 11-18 and will center primarily in the region of Valencia.Smith, a 2004 graduate of Warsaw Community High School, is the son of Jim and B. Nadine Smith, Warsaw. At MSU, he is a member of the MSU Symphony Band, Tuba Euphonium Ensemble and Marching Band.
He also is a member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, the Collegiate Chapter of the Music Educators National Conference and the International Tuba Euphonium Association. He has received several awards at MSU, including the Dean's List.
Smith and the MSU Symphony Band and Percussion Ensemble will perform at least four times on tour with concerts in Dénia, at the Centre Artístic Musical de Bétera, El Centro Instructivo Musical "La Armónica" de Buñol, and the Conservatorio Profesional de Música de Utiel. The tour also will include many educational activities that will allow performers to experience the culture of one of the world's oldest civilizations. Visitation sights include the Castle of Dénia and the Archaeological Museum, the Cathedral of Valencia (a Gothic Cathedral which also served as a mosque and a Roman temple before cathedral construction began in 1262). Students are individually funded to participate in the tour with a sponsorship program through the Morehead State University Foundation.
