A new project called Fourth-Grade Foresters of Indiana has been kicked off to revitalize the observation of Indiana's State Arbor Day on April 27.
This year, one person took it upon herself to provide every fourth-grade student at Jefferson, Leesburg and Syracuse elementary schools in Syracuse and Warsaw with an individually packaged White Pine tree seedling to take home, plant, and care for.
"This has been a great opportunity to give back to the community I live and work in," said Jennifer Smith of Coldwell Banker in Syracuse and Warsaw.
"This project is made possible because community business people like Jennifer Smith covered the cost of each of the individually packaged trees, so that there is no cost to the students, the teachers, the school, or the taxpayer," said Debra Ersch, co-founder of the Project. "It's a wonderful way for business people and individuals to show their support for the community, education and the environment."
The Fourth-Grade Foresters Project began this year and is taking place in 39 states. Thanks to the sponsors, 70,000 trees will be planted.
