There will be at least one race in the Kosciusko County primary this year.
Rebecca B. Smith announced she will seek the Republican nomination for the office of county treasurer. She will go up against State Sen. Kent Adams for the county position, who announced his candidacy earlier this month.
Smith has been employed in the treasurer's office full time since 1991. For six years she served as deputy treasurer and the last seven as chief deputy treasurer.
She said she has learned every aspect necessary to run the office efficiently, including incorporating new laws, teamwork with other offices, courteous and professional help to the public and all knowledge required for this county position.
She said she is the most qualified candidate to serve as treasurer "because of the experience from the years in the treasurer's office."
Kosciusko County needs an elected official, she said, who will continue to achieve the best possible standards at the local level. She said she feels that with her previous hard work, experience and knowledge, she would be a dedicated "working treasurer." It is also her intention to continue having a professional and experienced staff.
A charter life member of Kosciusko Community Hospital Auxiliary since 1973, she has been a member of the Association of Indiana Counties and the Indiana Treasurers' Association during her employment with the county.
She and her husband Bob have lived in Warsaw since 1966. Together, they raised two sons.
