Continuously serving Kosciusko County since 1854
Although construction on the skate park is not complete, the city's second annual skate bash is set for Saturday at the new location in Boggs Industrial Park.
As many as 200 roller bladers and skateboarders are expected to participate in the bash, which runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Activities will include several open skate periods, a demonstration and competition with three proficiency levels. The best overall skateboarder and roller blader will receive new equipment.
The event will also promote the new Explorer's Skate Post No. 2712, an integral part of the new park, which already includes three ramps and other equipment, said park activities director Denise Beno.
Beno said she's gotten calls from as far away as Bryan, Ohio, seeking directions to the bash.
Sponsors include the city, Bowen Center, YMCA, Eastlake Skate Center, the explorer's post and Boy Scouts Post 712.
