DECATUR, Ill.-Ashley Skaggs, a freshman majoring in music theater from Winona Lake, spent her spring break exploring tropical ecology in Costa Rica as part of the Ecological Journeys (Biology 280/380) course at Millikin University.During the weeklong excursion, students visited Rara Avis, a rainforest; Palo Verde, a seasonal dry forest; and Play Panama, one of the most pristine beaches in Costa Rica. Students spent the trip familiarizing themselves with principles of tropical ecology, visited different ecosystems, learned about different species of organisms within each ecosystem, kept field journals and completed a number of other projects.
This is the sixth time students have traveled to Costa Rica for this biology course.
