SILVER LAKE - If things go the way the Silver Lake Town Council would like, the town limits soon will expand.
According to Town Council President Ron Jones, the council is interested in studying the possibility of annexing to expand the town.
Council member Stanley Williams said the town would like to annex the car wash and trailer court as well as Wabash Valley on the other side of town. Other parcels missed in the last annexation also would be included in the new proposal.
According to Williams, "Very few people would be affected."
Williams said most of the area that would be annexed is business land, not land that is privately owned by individuals.
Council members said they have heard from the owner of the trailer court and he is in favor of being part of the town and encourages the annexation. Williams said several people he talked to in town also are in favor of annexation.
The council voted 3-0 to proceed with the study of the annexation process.
In other business, the council:
Approved a motion to allow street superintendent Phil Shalley to hire temporary part-time help for the town.
Approved a motion to repair and extend a new sidewalk along Ind. 15 as far as $15,000 will take it. Originally, Jones and Williams walked through town and identified areas of sidewalk that needed repaired. Since the budget for sidewalks was $30,000, they estimated that amount would be spent. Once bids for the repairs were submitted, the council learned the repairs on the sidewalks would cost only about $13,000. They then suggested the extension of the sidewalk along Ind. 15. The motion was approved 3-0.
Heard leaf pickup will begin in town Monday and continue through the fall.
Approved trick-or-treat hours for Oct. 31 from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

He suggested town residents lock their vehicles at night.
