Silver Lake Repairs Tornado Siren

Posted
SILVER LAKE – Relocation of a tornado siren and the purchase of  a new thermal imaging camera were main focuses of the brief town council meeting Wednesday night.
Town Marshal Craig Hollopeter said the town currently uses three tornado sirens. One of these sirens has been repaired and will be moved to the east side of town for more coverage. He said once the siren has been repositioned in a couple of weeks, there would be some siren tests. He said the siren would not be tested if there were storms in the area to avoid confusion for the residents.
Hollopeter also said the new police vehicle that was purchased with a grant is in the process of getting striped, but he said it should be ready for the Silver Lake Days Festival June 19 and 20.
Assistant Fire Chief John Conley said the fire department raised almost $4,000 at its hog roast May 23. This money is being used to purchase a new thermal imaging camera. The one they are purchasing costs $9,635. He said the department is receiving a $2,000 to $3,000 grant. The board approved this purchase.
Conley also said there is still room for three more teams to join the golf outing at 8 a.m. June 28. The cost is $200 per team.
In other business, each department is preparing for Silver Lake Days June 19 and 20. My Unique Wooden Toys will have its grand opening that weekend with refreshments.
The next regular town council meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. July 1.
