Silver Lake Mulls Annexation Ordinance

SILVER LAKE - If an annexation ordinance is passed, Silver Lake may be bigger by 2008.

Tuesday night at the regular meeting of the Silver Lake Town Council, board members heard the introduction of an ordinance that looks to annex several businesses and some homes into the town limits of Silver Lake.If passed, the ordinance would make Wabash Valley Manufacturing (505 E. Main St.), Superior Car Wash (10378 S. Ind. 15), Pure Pleasure/Pizza King (10406 S. Ind. 15), the trailer park (10402 S. Ind. 15), the Silver Lake Lions Club (108 N. Harrison St.) and the lot behind the fire station (702 E. Main St.) part of the town.

Residences at 10470 S. Ind. 15, 509 N. High St., 406 N. High St. and 404 N. High St. would be part of the annexation as well.

The owners of the properties included in the annexation will be notified of the proposed ordinance and a public hearing will be scheduled to discuss the matter.

A public hearing on the issue will be June 26 at 7 p.m. at the Silver Lake Town Hall.

In other business, the council:

n Discussed amending the town's ordinance regarding vicious dogs. A town resident voiced concern about pit bulls in town that attacked his daughter-in-law. Town Marshal Craig Hollopeter and Clerk-Treasurer Angie Glass are researching other towns' ordinances regarding vicious animals.

n Approved an ordinance making School Avenue a two-way street. The ordinance was approved 2-1. Stanley Williams voted against the motion.

n Decided against drafting an ordinance regarding all-terrain vehicles. All-terrain vehicles are banned from being operated on town streets. Golf carts are legal and considered slow moving vehicles, according to the Kosciusko County prosecutor's interpretation of state law.

n Approved a bid from G&G Tree Service to trim about 75 trees in town for $24,950. More trees around the lake will be trimmed later in the summer.

n Heard the rules of operation for the tornado sirens that will be installed in town at the end of April.
