SILVER LAKE -ÊFirefighters from six area departments responded to a house fire at 1963 W. Ind. 14 east of Silver Lake this morning.
Initially, fire crews from Silver Lake, Burket and Claypool were dispatched to the scene, but later crews from Sidney, Warsaw and Winona Lake were called for assistance.
As of 10:25 a.m. today, firefighters were still battling the blaze, which started around 8 a.m.
According to Silver Lake Fire Chief Rob Clark, windy conditions were fueling the fire and making it difficult to extinguish.
One person was in the home when the fire started but escaped the fire without injury.
The home, owned by the Doub family, sustained extensive damage from the blaze. Clark estimated the house will be "pretty close to a total loss."
Since the fire has not been put out at press time, a cause has not been determined for the blaze.
