SILVER LAKE - The Silver Lake Town Council held a public hearing Wednesday for the water rate decrease, following the removal of Indiana's utility receipts tax.
Hearing no public comment, the Council closed the hearing and called the regular meeting to order.
In old business, the Council approved ordinance 06-01-22 amending the town's water utility rate and discussed an infiltration issue at the trailer park behind Pizza King.
There is sewer system infiltration occurring due to a water leak that has yet to be fixed, following notice alerting the trailer park of their ordinance violation. The Council is moving forward with acquiring a court order and charging fines for the violation.
In new business, the Council is considering a lease for this year's Christmas decorations. The proposed service would install and uninstall a series of decorations that can be rented by unit.
The Council scheduled a Silver Lake School public relations event, a ceremony for the removal of limestone and the opening of a time capsule at 3 p.m. on July 23.
In other business:
- During the Lions Club Kids Bingo, 81 backpacks were given to local students. Leftover supplies were donated to Claypool Elementary.
- The fire department had 17 runs last month: two fires, five medical assists, two traffic accidents, three false alarms and five mutual aid assists.
- There was a claim docket of $214,785.27, higher than usual due to annual water and sewer bonds.
