Silver Lake Gazebo To Get Face-Lift

Posted

SILVER LAKE - The gazebo in Silver Lake will be getting a facelift soon.

Tuesday night, the Silver Lake Town Council approved Mike Carr's $2,400 bid to repair the structure.

The joists at the top of the gazebo are coming apart and the roof is damaged. Carr will remove the damaged roof and rebuild the top of the gazebo to restore its usefulness.

The bid was approved 2-0 as council member Tom Waite abstained from voting due to a conflict of interest.

The council hopes the project will be finished before Silver Lake Days in June.

The council also discussed the upcoming waste pickup day. A list of what will be taken and any extra charges will be released before the pickup day, which is May 14. No hazardous waste will be accepted.

Tires are being accepted on separate days. The town will accept tires May 6 at a location to be released later. Only tires without rims will be accepted, and the offer is extended only to town residents.

In other business, the council:

• Approved a $250 donation to the food bank.

• Tabled action on a proposal to offer direct deposit for employees. The council will look into the information and make a decision about direct deposit at a future meeting.

• Tabled action on a petition submitted to them by Jim Walker. Two of the three members of the council had not seen the petition, so it will be discussed at a future meeting.

• Approved a sewer adjustment for March and April for David and Angie Glass due to a water leak.

• Heard that once the equipment is received, Network Computer Solutions will begin installation for wireless Internet.

• Approved funds to buy two new fire suits for the fire department. The suits cost $1,650 each and will be given to two new firefighters on the squad. The township will buy two additional suits to cover the other two rookie firefighters.

Silver Lake Town Council members are Ron Jones, president; Stan Williams and Tom Waite. Town clerk is Angie Glass.
