Posted

SILVER LAKE – At Wednesday night's meeting, the Silver Lake Town Council voted to extend the due date for residents' water bills by five calendar days, as the clerk's office is experiencing mailing delays with the postal service.
In new business, council donated $500 toward the fire department's golf outing fundraiser, held at 8 a.m. June 28 at the Sycamore Golf Club on Ind. 114.
Council also approved Fire Chief John Conley's request to apply for a FEMA grant for a new town fire engine, which could cost up to $1.2 million.
In other business, council approved a printer quote from Perry Protech for one large communal printer and three smaller printers. The large printer is $176 per month and the three smaller printers are $226 per month.
Council notified the public that the village post office, located at town hall, will be closing effective June 16. The post office downtown remains open.
Council President Hugh Murfin said the new boat ramp on the lake will be installed sometime in mid-July.
In citizens' comments, council heard a request for a variance at 501 E. Sycamore St. from Joseph Barnes, who is building a two-car garage on his property with an apartment above. Council tabled the decision on the variance until the July 8 meeting, which is still prior to Barnes's hearing with the county on July 13.
In other business, council:
• Approved a quote with Tri-County Emergency Outfitters for electronics installation in the police department's K-9 cage.
• Agreed to advertise for mowing bids and wait before paying someone to mow in the meantime.
• Approved $146,657.13 in claims.
• Heard the clerk's office will be closed July 13–15 for State Board of Accounts training.
Council will next meet at 7 p.m. July 8.
