Silver Lake Elementary will start the school year with a new principal, who was approved Thursday by the Warsaw school board in a special meeting.
Kristine Woodard was formerly a teacher at Milford Elementary School, said superintendent Dr. Lee Harman, and he described her as "creative, personable, organized, positive and upbeat."
He also said Woodard, 44, received this recommendation from a former superintendent: "She's the kind of person you want to be around your kids."
Before working in Wawasee Community Schools, Woodard was at Whitko Schools for nine years, Harman said.
She received her bachelor's degree from Michigan State University and her master's degree and administrative license from Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne.
Also approved Thursday was Terrence Roe as assistant principal of Lakeview Elementary School. Roe will replace Ed Parks, who resigned to take a position with Wawasee schools.
Roe, 32, was formerly an instrumental instructor at Edgewood and Lakeview middle schools.
"He's a people person and a highly creative fellow," Harman said. "We know he'll do a good job for us in this position."
Roe received his undergraduate and master's degrees from Morehead State University and his Ed.S. in administration and supervision from the University of Tennessee.
The board's public meeting was followed by an executive session to discuss personnel.
Members of the school board are: Craig Allebach, Brad Brail, Larry Chamberlain, Cathy Folk, James Folk, Charles Sauders and Roy Szymanski. Superintendent is Dr. Lee Harman and assistant superintendent is Dr. David McGuire.
