SILVER LAKE - The Silver Lake Town Council started the new year by budgeting and reviewing 2014. Clerk Treasurer Tonya Conley discussed the need for new server software for the computers and she mentioned two options to the council, either buying the software in full or leasing. If purchased in full, it will cost $7,341 or they can choose a three-year leasing program and pay $275 per month. The current server software has been worked on for the past two months and the same issues keep occurring, she said. Council President Chad Miner said buying a new server system in full instead of leasing is the route to take. “I would anticipate if we bought a new one, it would last longer than three years,” Miner said. He also updated the council and guests that there are three properties in town that will be demolished, because these properties are considered abandoned. The commissioners met Tuesday and they are ready to move forward with the grants and continue the process. More updates will be available in March. Assistant Fire Chief John Conley was unable to attend the meeting Wednesday evening, but he provided the council with a packet highlighting the year in review for the fire department. The Silver Lake Volunteer Fire Department made a total of 67 runs last year. These runs consisted of; 18 fire runs, nine accidents, 23 medical assists, eight mutual aid runs, five alarms and four other runs. The next regular board meeting for the town council is scheduled for Feb. 11 at 7 p.m.
