SILVER LAKE – Silver Lake Town Council opened bids for the demolition of a home on Kermit Street Tuesday.
The bid process for the demolition of 3189 Kermit Street took longer than expected due to a few unexpected errors, but the official sealed bids for demolition were opened during the meeting.
Ten companies bid for the job, and The Handy Man of Claypool was certified the low bidder at $2780.90 and approved by the board.
Other bids were: Ransbottom Excavating $3,000, MG Handy Man Services $9,500, K&S Trucking $4,750, Cripe Excavating $3,490, Beer and Slabaugh Inc. $6,500, Hunter Hauling and Excavating $3,975, Dirt Excavating Inc $8,395, Steve's Hauling, Excavating and Snow Removal $3,600 and Martin Enterprises $8,250.
A representative of The Handy Man informed council that the company would like to start the project on Feb 17 and would be finished on Feb. 18.
Council also passed an ordinance allowing town officials to use credit cards to purchase needs for their position or the town. The ordinance states that only those officials whose job would require them to have a credit card would be able to have one.
In addition all purchases must be accompanied by a receipt; if not, the purchaser is liable for the purchase.
No purchase can exceed $1,000 and purchases of $500 or more must be approved by the council. The Clerk Treasurer will act as the enforcement agency.
Council also approved a resolution authorizing members to sign for town business purposes.
At the previous meeting Jeff Smith of the Meth Awareness Partnership spoke on how the community could fight meth and other drugs. Tuesday night Smith informed council and those in attendance that there will be a community meeting on March 3, at 12 p.m. at Silver Lake Town Hall.
Smith said Kosciusko County Drug Task Force officers and Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department Captain Aaron Rovenstine will speak on how to notice and fight drugs in the community.
