SILVER LAKE - Stafford Solid Waste Service will provide trash service in Silver Lake for the next year.
Tuesday night, the Silver Lake Town Council studied bids received from Stafford Solid Waste Service and Waste Management service. Stafford's bid of $24,288 was chosen and approved by a 3-0 vote.
Later in the meeting, the council looked at bids on a roof project for one of the pump houses for the water system. When IDEM inspected the facility last week, the representative recommended that the flat roof currently on the building should be replaced with a hipped roof.
The council received three bids to replace the roof and side and insulate the building from Parker Construction, Jim Gross Construction and Carr Construction. Carr Construction's bid of $3,200 for the entire project was approved 3-0 by the council.
"I think we should go for the complete package and have it over with," said council member Tom Waite.
"If we wait until next year, it's going to be higher," said council member Ronald Jones.
In other business, the council:
Approved Ordinance 02-01-06, amending and correcting an earlier ordinance setting the salaries for council members. Each town council member will be paid $1,181.25 each quarter. The earlier ordinance had a typing error in the salary section.
Approved a request from fire chief Rob Clark to buy two helmet shields, two motion sensor pass devices and a new pike pole. Lake Township agreed to pay half the bill for the equipment, and the Silver Lake Town Council approved a motion to pay half. The town will pay $357 to replace the equipment.
