SILVER LAKE - Amendments to the yield/stop sign ordinance were approved and a bid for street repair was accepted during Tuesday's Silver Lake Town Council meeting.
The council eliminated a yield sign at North Harrison Street and a stop sign on North High Street at East North Street.
New signs will be placed on North Columbia Street for northbound and southbound traffic; on South Harrison and South Maple streets at Sycamore Street; on North Elm Street at Cemetery Drive; and on East North Street at North High Street.
The town is required to have yield and stop signs written into ordinance before they can be erected or enforced.
Phend & Brown was awarded the bid for street repairs at a cost of $24,186.69. The bid was the lesser of two received. Roads included in the work order are East Wells Street; South Harrison Street from Main Street to Sycamore Street; a portion of High Street north of North Street; East Walnut Street from Ind. 15 to Columbia Street; North Poplar from Ind. 14 to Wells Street; East North Street from Ind. 15 to High Street; and North High Street from Ind. 15 to North Street.
In other business, the council will pay Craftsman of Silver Lake $1,000 to fill in four windows at the fire station. The only other quote received, for $1,790, was from Carr Construction.
Also, the council is contemplating how to use $13,300 in funds targeted for storm sewers, and is considering an upgrade for the computer used for utility billing.
The next meeting is at 7 p.m. Sept. 9 in the town hall.
