Silent No More Endorses Mourdock

Kosciusko Silent No More has endorsed Richard Mourdock in the GOP primary for U.S. Senate from Indiana.

In Greenfield on  Saturday afternoon, delegates participated in the first statewide straw poll in support of the next Indiana Senator for the U.S. Congress.

The result was a consensus in support of Indiana State Treasurer Richard Mourdock.

A total of 97 delegates voted for one of two competing candidates: incumbent Senator Richard Lugar and Mourdock.

By a vote of 96 to one, Mourdock won the straw poll.

“I have listened to many speeches by Mr. Mourdock and I am impressed with his honest and sincere stance for true constitutional principles as intended by our founding fathers,” said Jim Heierman, Kosciusko County Tea Party vice president. “I know he will demand a balanced budget for the United States in a similar fashion as he has already demonstrated as treasurer for the State of Indiana.”

Hoosiers For Conservative Senate began its journey of endorsing a constitutional conservative to represent them in the United States Senate with a caucus of TEA party and liberty group leaders in January of this year.

At that caucus, Monica Boyer, co-founder and president of Kosciusko Tea Party, and other leaders formed HFCS.

They laid out a plan to rally TEA groups around a single candidate running in the GOP 2012 primary for the senate seat for Indiana.

“TEA party folks were tired of Senator Lugar constantly moving the conservative goal posts to the liberal end of the playing field," Boyer explained. “Through HFCS and our meeting in January, TEA party groups spoke loudly that we believe it is time for a fresh voice, a real conservative voice to speak for Indiana in the U.S. Senate.”

Mourdock has spent this past year visiting with TEA and GOP groups from one end of our state to the other.

“When it comes to economic issues, such as TARP or the continuing bailouts where the federal government picks winners and losers, our conservative principles do not line up with Senator Lugar’s votes,” Boyer said.

Boyer said Mourdock earned the TEA party’s trust with his record opposing such actions by the federal government.
