I can remember as a little girl growing up in Leesburg being very excited to decorate my bike and ride in the Memorial Day parade. There is just something about a small hometown parade that brings a smile to one's face and fills the heart till almost bursting.
I am grown now with children of my own and I get to enjoy seeing my daughter decorate her bike and ride down the brick roads of Leesburg in that same parade. The Allens do such a great job of making amazing kettle popcorn that they give out free. And the Grace Brethren Church does a wonderful job of handing out free hot dogs and water bottles up and down the streets during the parade.
This year I was extra proud to be watching the parade because of all my family members being in it. My daughter and husband rode on there decorated bikes together. My brother and his family drove there old rescue vehicle along side the new rescue vehicle and firetrucks. And my parents walked behind the Silent No More float.
That is why when Mr. Brian Joseph Smith writes a letter to the editor stating that the Silent No More group has no heart or brain it drives me to write this in response to his letter. This letter is not intended to be a target set out to Mr. Smith. But Mr. Smith, have you ever gone to a Silent No More event or meeting? Or is what you stated just your personal opinion? You said, and I quote, "We were subjected to a narrow-minded minority trying to prove a cheap political point."
My parents are working very hard to make sure that our free country stays just that free. Much like the soldiers and veterans did and are doing for our country now. And did you lump the group Silent No More in with the KKK people, seriously? It's wonderful to live in this free country and to be able to express ourselves and our own opinions, much like you did in your letter.
Silent No More is doing the exact same thing. God bless America.
