PIERCETON - A Marion teenager was detained after shots were fired in Pierceton early Sunday morning.
According to police reports, Pierceton police officer Jim Bumbaugh was inside the Pak-A-Sak Food Mart at the intersection of U.S. 30 and Ind. 13 in Pierceton when shots were fired in the parking lot.
Bumbaugh heard the gun shots and saw a large group of juveniles running from the area of the shots.
Within a short time, police took a 17-year-old Marion man into custody and a .40 caliber handgun that had been fired in the altercation between the suspect and other juveniles.
During an investigation, it was learned the suspect was removed from Tippy Dance Hall, Leesburg, earlier in the evening after an altercation.
Pierceton police transported the suspect to the South Bend Juvenile Center pending a court appearance on a charge of criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon.
Officers from Winona Lake and Warsaw police departments, Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department and Indiana State Police assisted at the scene.
