Shots Fired At Semis

Posted

A pair of semi tractor-trailer drivers had a scare Friday morning while driving through Warsaw on U.S. 30.

Mike DeSilvio, of Almenia, Wis., was driving for West Side Transport of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Michael Keith Szajna, of Woodburn, was driving for Riverview Transport of Woodburn when they reported shots fired at their vehicles early Friday morning.

DeSilvio was westbound on U.S. 30 around 1:37 a.m. Friday when the incident occurred.

"I was driving my truck on U.S. 30 when something broke the passenger window and whistled through the cab," DeSilvio said this morning. "I pulled over to the side of the road and heard several other trucks on the radio saying someone shot at them. Then I called 911."

Glass in the passenger-side window shattered, covering DeSilvio and making several small cuts on his right hand and arm. The object that broke the window flew through the cab and out the driver's window, which was open at the time.

When police arrived at the spot where DeSilvio pulled over, DeSilvio was covered with shattered glass.

"It was scary," DeSilvio said.

Szajna told police he was driving on U.S. 30 around 1:37 a.m. Friday when something hit the passenger side door of his semi shortly after he passed through the intersection of U.S. 30 and Old 30.

When he stopped the truck and inspected it, the passenger side of the semi had a dent from a hard object.

Szajna told police he heard shots when the incident occurred.

Damage to each semi was estimated at around $300.

The incidents remain under investigation.
