While the Shortstop gas station, South Buffalo Street, Warsaw, is currently closed, it is expected to reopen.
Despite reports to the contrary, according to Tony Silveus, the Sunoco representative and supplier in the area, the gas station is temporarily closed and will reopen. There is no timetable on when it may open back up for business.Silveus said he is in the process of meeting with people interested in operating the location that has been in Warsaw for 28 years.
The Shortstop was originally opened and owned by Erma and Phill Neff. According to Silveus, they sold the business several years ago.
"Usually when there is a change of ownership or an operator, you have time to make a smooth transition," said Silveus. "That didn't happen this time."
Silveus declined to name who the most recent operator was.
He said several people are interested in operating the station and he is meeting with them.
While there is no timetable for reopening, Silveus said the building will undergo some changes, including improvements to electronic equipment.
The Shortstop will undergo a facelift, he said. The canopy and gas pumps will have new graphics applied.
According to Silveus, the gas station will be NASCAR-themed. He said it will be designed similar to Wilby's in Pierceton.
"The Shortstop has been a valuable asset to the city for 28 years," said Silveus. "It has a dedicated and loyal clientele."
