A Warsaw man is in serious condition at a Fort Wayne hospital after being shot in the face Tuesday evening at a mobile home park near Warsaw.

Saul Martinez, 29, of Sue Street, Warsaw, suffered a single gunshot wound in the incident. Police do not have a suspect in the 4:30 p.m. shooting outside a Hide-Away Hills Mobile Home Park residence on West CR 250S, south of Warsaw.

Martinez told police through an interpreter that he didn't see any people or vehicles in the area prior to the shooting. The occupant of the mobile home where Martinez was going to visit told police he heard a gunshot and, when he came outside to investigate, found Martinez standing near the front door bleeding from the nose and mouth.

According to a Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department report, the bullet entered on the right side of Martinez's nose in a downward direction and traveled through the roof of his mouth and down his neck before lodging in the left shoulder area.

Martinez was transferred by helicopter ambulance from Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw, to Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, for treatment.

Detective Sgt. Todd Sautter of the KCSD said he doubts the shooting was a hunting accident because of the size of the bullet. It is believed the small-caliber bullet might have come from a handgun.
