Shooting Threats Lead To Charges

A Winona Lake man was arrested Wednesday after allegedly threatening to shoot all employees at KGP Logistics.

Sammual Nicholis Miller, 29, of 1206 Wooster Road, #44, Winona Lake, was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 6:08 p.m. Wednesday for intimidation. His bond was set at $5,250.

He faces two counts of intimidation, level 6 felonies, and one count of possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor.

On Nov. 30, a Warsaw Police Department officer responded to a report of intimidation at KGP Logistics, West Winona Avenue, Warsaw. The human resource director told the officer that on third shift, Miller went for a break and was found sleeping in his vehicle. Employees beat on the vehicle for five minutes to wake him up. Because Miller was sleeping and difficult to wake up, the human resource director suspected drug use and was going to offer Miller a drug test and might have had to terminate Miller’s employment.

Two employees told the HR director that sometime between October and November, Miller had told them that if he was fired by telephone, he would come to the back of the business, go over the fence and move through the building, shooting all employees.

The first witness said that she, Miller and the other witness were talking when Miller  allegedly said if he ever got fired over the phone, he would come to KGP, shoot the people in the cable cut department first, then come through the doors and start shooting everyone in the building. Miller then allegedly said he would have to do it quickly to make it to the other side of the building before people escaped.

The witness said she was afraid Miller would carry through with the threat if he was fired.

The second witness provided the same information as the first. He said he was afraid because he sold a black Highpoint .40 caliber rifle to Miller about seven months ago.

The police officer spoke with Miller, who admitted that about a month ago he was working in a common area with the second witness and the subject turned to shooting the place up, according to the probable cause affidavit. Miller said the proper way to shoot the place up would be to start at the cable side of the building and force everyone to the side of the building where there is only one exit. Miller acknowledged he has a Highpoint .40 caliber carbine at his residence.

At Miller’s residence on Wooster Road, Miller took officers to his firearm, which was taken in as evidence. An officer could smell marijuana in the area of the firearm. Miller admitted to smoking marijuana earlier in the day and gave police consent to search his residence. A glass smoking device that contained burnt marijuana was found.
