SYRACUSE – Shirley L. Young, 78, of Syracuse, died at 12:30 a.m. June 16, 2012, in Miller’s Merry Manor, Syracuse.
She was born April 3, 1934, in Logansport, to Kermit B. and Edith A. Kitson Hunt. On Dec. 27, 1952, in Logansport, she married Thomas Richard “Tom” Young, who died in January 2002.
She graduated from Logansport High School in 1952 and attended Western Union Business College, South Bend. She moved to Syracuse from Logansport in 1972. She was a former attendant at the Logansport State Hospital; a clerk at Meredith’s Dress Shop and The Next to New Consignment Shop, Syracuse; and as a greeter at McDonald’s and Ganshorn Printing Co., Syracuse. She was a member of Wawasee Heights Baptist Church and The Red Hat Society, both in Syracuse.
Surviving are three sons, Frederick A. (and spouse Cathy) Young and Thomas R. Young Jr., all of Syracuse, and Richard L. Young, Delphi; two daughters, Linda (and spouse Charles) Oakley, Elkhart, and Carol LeMaster, Chandler, Ariz.; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three brothers: Thomas (and spouse Pat) Hunt, Rolla, Mo.; William Hunt, Logansport; and David (and spouse Kim) Hunt, Chesterton; and two sisters, Bessie (and spouse Austin) Harmon, Kissimmee, Fla., and Carol (and spouse Zinney) Jones, Star City. She also was preceded in death by a brother.
A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Owen Family Funeral Home, Syracuse.
