MENTONE – Shirley L. McVey, 88, Pittsboro and formerly of Mentone, passed away at 5:40 a.m. June 21, 2015, at Brownsburg Health Care, Brownsburg. She was born April 9, 1927, in South Kingstown, Wakefield Village, R.I., to Ziba and Marian Phillips Young. On June 3, 1955, in North Kingstown, R.I., she married the Rev. Norman McVey, who survives. She worked for the U.S. Post Office in Saundertown and was also a homemaker. She was a graduate of North Kingstown High School in Rhode Island. She and her husband lived in Mentone when he was the pastor of the First Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Pittsboro Baptist Church. Also surviving are a daughter, Brenda (and spouse David) Letcher, Osceola; a son, David (and spouse Mary) McVey, Spring Hill, Tenn.; and three grandchildren: Danielle Brinkerhoff, Elizabeth McVey and Lt. Nathan (and spouse Brooke) McVey. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Barbara Williams and twin Anita Young; and a brother, the Rev. Edwin O. Young. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of Mentone, 206 S. Oak St., with the Rev. George Shoemaker and Pastor Michael Wilhite officiating. Burial is in Mentone Cemetery.
