On May 15, 1993, Bryan Sherwin officially began serving and protecting the citizens of Warsaw.
Almost exactly 17 years later, he was promoted to captain of the Warsaw Police Department.
Today at the Warsaw Board of Works meeting, a request from Chief Scott Whitaker to promote Sherwin to the captain position was approved.
"I am really looking forward to assisting Chief Whitaker however and whenever I can," Sherwin said. "(Whitaker) and I have worked together in the past on the road, then on SWAT and in the detective division."
Sherwin has been involved in many special units in his 17 years in the department. He is a 15-year member of the special weapons and tactics team and has been its team leader for four years.
He has been in the detective division since 2006, where he currently holds the detective sergeant rank.
A member of the SCUBA team for 16 years, he earned the master diver certification. He also was a certified Indiana Law Enforcement Academy firearms instructor for 14 years.
Sherwin said he is optimistic about the future of the department.
"We have a good mix of youth and experience mingling together," Sherwin said
Sherwin resides in rural Pierceton with his wife and two sons.
