Sheriff Salary

In response to Mr. Prater's second letter:

I would expect someone who is underpaid in the military would have appreciation for these thankless jobs and the pay that is received.

I have friends that work for the KCSD, one of which is my brother. I have not heard anyone from the department whining and saying they think the sheriff is overpaid. Do you know why? Because they have a clue what is involved in being the sheriff of Kosciusko County.

The people complaining about his salary are people who have no idea. This would be you.

The original article stated that the sheriff froze his salary. That is him taking a pay cut. Like any tough job, there has to be incentives or no one would want the job. Is he supposed to get paid as a deputy and have all the responsibilities of a sheriff? I'm pretty sure the sheriff is never really "off" much like military. So the math on 365 days a year, 24 hours a day is a little over $10 per hour. Doesn't seem unreasonable to me.
