Sharlene ‘Shar’ Faye RossSharlene “Shar” Faye Ross, 80, of Mentone, passed at 12:54 a.m. Tuesday, March 9, 2021, at her home surrounded by her family.
Shar was born on March 18, 1940, in Mentone, to the late Samuel and Yvonne O’Dell Ware. She was married on June 28, 1958, in the Mentone United Methodist Church to Gerald Lee “Tex” Ross; he preceded her in death on March 15, 2008.
She was a 1958 graduate of Mentone High School. She worked for Midwest Spring for 45 years before her retirement and permanent vacation in October 2019. She enjoyed quilting, crafts, bowling, traveling and spending as much time as possible with her family.
Not only was she valiant in her battle with cancer, she continued to be a ray of sunshine and delighted everyone with her sweet smile and kind words that were occasionally punctuated with a smattering of orneriness.
Sharlene is survived by her children: Crystal Hale, of Martin, Ky.; Angie (Mark) Dillon, of Warsaw; Eric (Sharon) Ross, of Mentone; Windy (Terry) McFarren, of Claypool; Cy (Michele) Ross, of Clarksville, Tenn.; Balinda Vasquez, Vallejo, Calif.; 20 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; 18 great-great-grandchildren; and sisters, Joyce and husband John Sexton, of Mentone; and Dawn and husband Charles Walton, of Mentone.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Yvonne Ware; her husband, Gerald Ross; son, Kevin; sisters, Sharon Gilbert and Nancy E. Owens; and her companion, Newt Green III.
Visitation hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, March 13 at King Memorial Home, 101 N. Tucker St., Mentone. Masks will be required for all who are in attendance.
Private interment will take place in the Mentone Cemetery, Mentone, at a later date.
