AKRON – Shannon Buck, 78, Akron, passed away at 5:04 p.m. July 25, 2015, in his residence.
He was born Feb. 18, 1937, in Grayson, Ky., to Walter H. and Mary Velom Prater Buck. On May 25, 1968, in Jackson, Mich., he married Mary Jean Berol , who survives in Akron.
He lived in Michigan and Kentucky before moving to Akron in 1976.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1959. He was the owner of Akron Feed & Grain and then owned South Side Video Store, Akron. His last job was working at Kroger in Rochester until he became ill in March 2015.
He was a member of Akron Church of God. He raced mini stock cars for almost 20 years at the Plymouth Speedway and New Paris Speedway, and he loved animals, especially his horses.
Also surviving are: a son, Bryon S. (and spouse Heather) Buck, Alpharetta, Ga.; a daughter, Lori J. Fitzpatrick (and James Kats), Tippecanoe; six grandchildren: Dylan Simison, North Webster; Mary Katelyn Buck, Alpharetta, Ga.; David Fitzpatrick and Jacob Kats, both of Tippecanoe; Lukus Kats, Nappanee; and Joshua Kats, Warsaw; a brother, Louie (and spouse Rita) Buck, Evansville; and a sister, Nila (Buck) Booth, Louisville, Ky. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Franklin Buck, and two sisters, Pearl Porter and Shirley Manning.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Earl-Love Funeral Home, 811 E. Rochester St., Akron, with Pastor Terry Canfield officiating. Burial is in Akron IOOF Cemetery with full military rites.
