Sewing Group Has Fundraiser SaturdayLEESBURG – Sew Special Network of Northern Indiana Inc. (SSNNI) is having a fundraiser from 8:30 to 3 p.m. Saturday at 4108 E. Lakeview Trail, Leesburg.
The fundraiser includes a garage sale. Much for sale are items that have been donated to the nonprofit group. For sale include items such as craft supplies, quilting supplies and sewing machines. Member Marsha Frantisak said the hope is to help raise money for the group. Frantisak said some of the money will go toward buying items that don’t get donated to the group that they need to make projects like badding and velcro.
Other money raised will go toward helping get a storefront for the group as they need a place to work and a storefront will hopefully allow the group to grow. The sale is also to help celebrate the group’s one-year anniversary of its incorporation. Currently, SSNNI maintains a workshop in Leesburg, where volunteers can work on projects or pick up supplies to complete at their homes.
Frantisak said anyone interested in sewing, knitting, crocheting and other handcrafts are welcome. They don’t necessarily have to sew to be in the group as one member does a lot of the group’s ironing. Frantisak said how much is done depends on the person. Some people like to work on items while watching TV at home, while others may take a while to work on projects.
Frantisak said the group was founded in early 2019 as it sought to help others. It is all volunteers and has about 20 members. The group provides handmade items to hospitals, hospice or cancer agencies and children’s centers. It also makes items for nursing homes, homeless shelters and civic groups. Items SSNNI has made include about 6,000 masks.
SSNNI also donates several thousand dollars’ worth of handmade items to groups to help them help their clients, according to provided information.
