I would like to express my opposition to Tippecanoe Lake area property owners joining the Lakeland Regional Sewer District.
Are these people insane? The economy is in a downturn and many say that we could have a deep recession or even a depression, and these bozos want to spend 20 to a 100 million on a sewer. They will try and deceive you into believing that it cost much less, but look at the poor folks in Leesburg. They are saddled with high monthly bills before they even have service. And the worst part for the folks in Leesburg is with all the little pump stations, the maintenance is going to be a nightmare. Many of our modern flushable products plug up pumps, and it would not surprise me if every day in Leesburg someone will have to deal with a plugged-up pump at a huge man-hour cost or high plumber bill if homeowners themselves have to maintain them.
The lake areas involved will require hundreds of miles of pipe. Pipe around lakes cannot be buried deep so many lift stations at a cost of $50,000 to $100,000 a piece will be required. There are other ways of moving the waste, but they all require large investments in infrastructure. I believe that when the dust settles, residents around these lakes can count on $200 a month sewer bills not to mention an initial $1,500 to $5,000 hookup fee. With food, gasoline, natural gas and electricity going up exponentially, I cannot afford such an expense, can you?
I do not know who these people are that claim to represent property owners, but no one I know voted for them and they should have no say in obligating property owners to such an extravagance. Kosciusko County commissioners should table their petition permanently.
