Several Lancers Earn Awards

WINONA LAKE - Several Grace College athletes earned recognition following outstanding fall sports performances.

Topping the list is Lady Lancer senior setter Melissa Rants. Rants was honored as a first team All-American selection for the NCCAA. This season, Rants has accumulated 1,479 total assists and 147 blocks while leading Grace to a 24-14 record. For her career, Rants has 7,254 assists, ranking her second nationally in career assists in the NAIA.

Teammate Kate Millen, a freshman middle hitter, was named to the All-NCCAA National Tournament team following a standout performance at the NCCAA National Tournament last weekend. Millen recorded 52 kills, 24 blocks, and 56 digs over the two day tournament.

In women's soccer, Eve Arthur and Kim Abshagen were named All-Mid Central Conference and NCCAA All-Midwest Region first team. In addition, Arthur was named the Regional Player of the Year. She scored 24 goals and added five assists this season, while Abshagen scored 16 goals and had five assists.

In men's soccer, senior captain Brant Burns was named All-MCC first team while freshmen Luke Fields and Jon Hoover were second team selections. Two other freshmen, Steve Muldoon and Jake Bury were named All-Conference honorable mention.

Burns scored five goals this year while splitting time between forward and sweeper. Muldoon led Grace with seven goals and three assists. Hoover, the starting goalkeeper, allowed just 33 goals in 20 games this year. He also recorded five shutouts.
