BOURBON – Seven contestants will compete for the title of 2015 Triton Jr. Miss/Distinguished Young Women 7 p.m. Oct. 18 at Triton High School auditorium. According to a press release, the program is celebrating 51 years with the theme “Super Heroes.” Kevin Boyer will return as host for the night. The Junior Miss program is full of scholarship opportunities for high school senior girls, according to promoters. Since its beginning, it has awarded young women scholarships for their academic and on-stage performances. Each contestant is judged in five categories: scholastic achievement; talent; interview; a fitness routine; and self expression on stage. Each contestant is required to answer a question on stage while in her formal gown. Before the show, a panel of academic judges tally scores based on each contestant’s grade point average, scholastic aptitude test scores and level of class difficulty. Another panel of judges scores the other four categories. On the day of the show, contestants spend 10 minutes with the judges for a personal interview. Later, the audience is able to enjoy the competition. Triton Jr. Miss is awarding over $3,700 in scholarships to the seven young women from Triton High School. The awards consist of preliminary awards, spirit of Jr. Miss and the winners in the individual categories: the winner, first, second and third runners up. The Spirit of Jr. Miss is an award voted on by all the contestants and given to the girl who best exemplifies the principles of a junior miss. The winner will join other senior girls from across the state to compete for Indiana’s Junior Miss competition in Kokomo Feb. 19, 20 and 21.
