Posted

Sesquicentennial Celebration BeginsThursday marked the opening of the annual Silver Lake Days Festival. This year the event celebrates the town's 150th birthday. During the opening ceremony, Indiana State Representative Bill Ruppel (R-North Manchester) recognized the town's 150th year in existence. Pictured during the recognition are (top L to R): Craig Hollopeter, Laurie Voss, Ruppel, Marlin Carr, Sue Clark, Tonya Conley, Jean Weller and Larry Swihart. The town's beard contest also took place Thursday. Wayne Spratt (L) had the best trim, Hollopeter (C) had the shortest beard and Kirby LaMond's (R) beard was named most amusing. Silver Lake Days continues through Sunday, with a car show and fireworks display this evening and the annual parade at 11 a.m. Saturday.
