MILFORD - September is Library Card Sign-up Month, and the Milford Public Library wants to make sure that your child is among the two-thirds of Americans who carry the smartest card of all - a library card.
Studies show that children who are read to in the home and who use the library perform better in school and are more likely to continue to use the library as a source of lifetime learning. A library card is the most important school supply of all. Students can come into the library to check out books, music CDs, DVDs or use the computers downstairs.
Staff members recently celebrating work anniversaries are Dorothy Haney and Shari Lambert.
Haney celebrated her sixth anniversary on Aug. 28. Her favorite music is piano music, and John Grisham is her favorite author. Haney enjoys meeting people and helping them find good books to read. She also enjoys seeing former students who visit the library.
Lambert is celebrating her eighth year at the library. She maintains the library Web site, works in the children's department and works on promoting the library and its programs. Her favorite author is Eric Carle, and one of her favorite books is "Trumpet of the Swan" by E. B. White. Lambert enjoys sharing people's enthusiasm for books and reading.
The library staff is asking patrons to fill out a survey on library services during the month of September. Surveys are available at the circulation desks. Patrons only need to fill out the survey one time. We are hoping to find out what hours and services are most important to our patrons as we are looking at making some cuts due to budget restrictions. There is space on the back of the survey for comments and concerns from patrons. This information will help us complete our long-range plan for the library.
