Ceremonies to mark the sixth anniversary of the Sept. 11 tragedy will occur Tuesday in Kosciusko County.
At 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, the 113th Army Band will perform at Glover Pavilion in Central Park, Warsaw. The "In Remembrance of 9-11" ceremony also will include local speakers and singing by Ed Rock, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
Emergency services vehicles and personnel from throughout the county will be present at the ceremony. The public is welcome to attend.
In past years, remembrance ceremonies have been held at the county coutrhouse. The event was moved this year to accommodate more people and the 113th Army Band.
The 113th Army Band, the second oldest Army Band in active duty, currently is based in Fort Knox, Kentucky. The band was formed July 8, 1840, with the name First Regiment of Dragoons, making the band's official nickname the Dragoons.
The band has earned 25 campaign participation credits in several wars, including the Indian Wars in 1855, the Civil War and World War II. One of the band's most historic moments was playing in President Abraham Lincoln's second inaugural parade.
In 1940, the band was reorganized and designated as the Band, First Armored Regiment and served in Algeria, French Morocco, Tunisia and Italy.
The group was disbanded in 1943 but reactivated in 1956 and designated the 113th Army Band.
In 1970 the band consolidated with the 158th Army Band and it began to participate in events in Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio.
The Dragoons are made up of a ceremonial band, a concert band, a rock band, a jazz ensemble, a brass quintet, a woodwind quintet, a trombone quartet and a piano player. he focus of the band is ceremonial, but the band has played other venues in various styles.
Directed by a warrant officer, the band is made up of 39 authorized enlisted positions.
The Sons of the American Revolution will mark the anniversary by placing a wreath at the War Memorial at the Kosciusko County Courthouse lawn Tuesday at 8:46 a.m. to commemorate the time the first airplane hit the tower of the World Trade Center.
Last year, a silent parade of emergency vehicles traveled through town to mark the fifth anniversary of the event. A silent parade also was organized in 2002 to commemorate the first anniversary of the terror attacks.
