Senior Services, Liberty Sewing Circle Thank Vets With ‘Threads Of Valor’

Kosciusko Community Senior Services and the Liberty Sewing Circle teamed up once again to offer thanks to local veterans.

The fifth Threads of Valor quilt presentation was Nov. 15 at the Kosciusko County Senior Center, Warsaw.

Liberty Sewing Circle consists of women from the community who create quilts, lap robes and other items of comfort. Their specialty is making quilts for local veterans, which they present during Threads of Valor ceremonies twice a year.

The event began with a performance by the Kosciusko County Purdue Extension Chorus, followed by prayer from Pastor John Lowe of New Life Christian and World Outreach Church, Warsaw. There was a presentation of flags by the Honor Guard American Legion Post 49, Warsaw.

Guest speakers included KCSS Executive Director David Neff; Mayor Joe Thallemer; and Russ Jehl, district deputy director from Congressman Jim Banks’ office. Jehl read a letter from Banks thanking Liberty Sewing Circle for their work.

Two veterans, Justin Anderson and Frank Stone, were not able to attend the ceremony. Their quilts were delivered to them Sunday.  Veteran Terry Mauzy was unable to attend because of his health. His wife, Maureen, accepted the quilt and certificate on his behalf.

Lunch followed the ceremony, sponsored by Mason Health and Rehabilitation Center and American Legion Post 49.
