WINONA LAKE - "How do you ART?" is an exhibit arranged by senior art students Mariana Azcárate Marcial, Jessica E. Henry, John Miller, Ryan D. Pickart, Caleb Sarver and Darren Wetzel.
Gallery hours are now through April 9 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The exhibit is in Mount Memorial Hall on the Grace College campus, Room 102, and is handicapped accessible. Admission is free for the exhibit.
Sarver is from Portis, Kan., and his parents are David and Dawn Sarver. Sarver is an illustration and graphic design major. Anticipating his graduation in May, he said, "I'll probably miss the close proximity of friends, along with late night Wal-Mart runs."
"This exhibit means that I have a chance to show a few of my pieces," he said. "The theme refers to the display of different styles and media to express ourselves through the avenue of artwork."
Pickart is from Lowell, and his parents are Dave and Diana Pickart. Pickart is a drawing/painting, graphic design and illustration major with a minor in business administration.
"My favorite memory is starting the art club and leading it with Jessica Henry," Pickart said. "It was great to see how others appreciate art and never had so much fun as the time we popped balloons filled with paint to create Jackson Pollock-esque paintings. The cleanup was insane."
"The theme 'How do you ART?' is a roundabout question that is curious to know how each of the seniors in this art exhibit creates art. We each are skilled in different media; painting, drawing, illustrating, photography, sculpture, pottery, printmaking. The list goes on and on, but the main answer to this question lies within the senior and how each want to be represented in their studies here at Grace," he said.
Wetzel is from Warsaw, and his parents are Bud and Elaine Wetzel. He is married to Charlette Sauders."This exhibit is a culmination of years of hard work to develop and hone my art skills," said Wetzel. "It is a chance for me to share my gift with others. I hope they enjoy themselves and are moved by the experience."
"My favorite memory is anything involving Professor [Art] Davis. He was always teaching even when he wasn't in class," Wetzel said.
Henry is from Huntington, and is the daughter of Rod and Anita Henry. Her major is graphic design with a minor in communications.
"My favorite memory at Grace was when my 3-D class went for a field trip to the Fort Wayne Museum of Art with Professor Young," Jessica said.
"This exhibit taught me that a deadline is a deadline and if things are not finished, the only person to blame is you," she added.
Miller is from Winona Lake, and his parents are Steve and Lori Miller. He is a business, marketing and graphic design major.
"This exhibit is a great opportunity to exhibit my work, and get my name out professionally," said Miller. "The theme means that each individual person is entitled to do art however they please. There is no wrong way to do art."
Miller said, "I have learned that I have grown a ton as an artist in my years at Grace. I will miss the many fun times of goofing around, and just being silly."
