Senate candidate Eric Holcomb served during Wednesday night’s Kosciusko County Republic Fish Fry at Kosciusko County Fairgrounds. There were 771 people who attended the fry, according to Randy Girod, Kosciusko County GOP chair. Holcomb served as Indiana Republican party chair under former Gov. Mitch Daniels and Gov. Mike Pence. Dan Coats currently holds the seat, but is not seeking re-election. “I am running for senate because I want to take the same experience I had working for Gov. Mitch Daniels where we focused on real solutions and didn’t want to admire problems but solve them,” Holcomb said. He said his goals are to keep America safe, make sure America is a jobs magnet, honor commitments to veterans and seniors, respect the rules of law and engage the next generation of leaders. “We have $18 trillion in debt that gets bigger and bigger and folks who are not of age to vote yet will have to pay that bill,” Holcomb said. He said as a former state GOP chair he has visited 92 counties in Indiana that has helped him know issues and residents and learn what is important in each county. Holcomb talked about the medical device tax and said the tax is “immoral.” “It’s counter-productive and doesn’t entice innovation and it needs to be repealed,” Holcomb said. “Kosciusko County has proven in the orthopedic industry that we can do this in Indiana and America and we cannot have policies in place that stifle innovation or force production and manufacturing offshore.” Also in attendance at the fish fry were Warsaw clerk-treasurer candidates Lynne Christiansen and Larry Ladd and city council at-large candidates Cindy Dobbins, Connie Fribley, Patrick Loebs, Justin Risner, Juergen Voss and Jack Wilhite. Candidates uncontested who also attended were: Warsaw Mayor Joe Thallemer, Dist. 2 city Councilman Charlie Smith, Dist. 4 Councilman Jerry Frush and Dist. 5 Councilwoman Diane Quance.
