No charges have been filed against a South Whitley man who claimed self-defense in a shooting death at his home Friday. Police questioned and released David G. Hagan, 52, following the shooting death of Adam Porter, 29, in the backyard of Hagan’s house at 229 W. Buckeye St., South Whitley, according to a press release from the Whitley County Prosecutor Office. Police responded to an emergency call from a neighbor Friday around 8:30 p.m. and found Porter’s body in the yard, dead from a gunshot wound. Hagan claimed the shooting was in self-defense. Hagan was initially booked into the Whitley County Jail but was released Saturday following a joint preliminary investigation by the Indiana State Police, the Whitley County Sheriff’s Department and the South Whitley Police Department. The Whitley County Prosecutor’s Office will review the matter once the investigation is complete and determine whether further action is warranted, the release states.
