Seeds Hold True In Opening Round Of NLC Tennis TourneyAll the seeds held in the opening round of the Northern Lakes Conference boys tennis tournament Wednesday at the Warsaw Community High School courts. Warsaw went 4-1 in the opening round. Fourth-seeded Andrew Gauger beat Wawasee’s Nate Haines at No. 2 singles in straight sets, while Warsaw’s second-seeded David Homme beat NorthWood’s Landon Holland at No. 3 singles. Tiger seniors and No. 4 seed Justin Stout and Ryan Wettschurack lost just one game in their win over Northridge’s Luke Wogoman and Logan Corns. Hayden Steger and Spencer Britton hold the top seed at No. 2 doubles, and they beat Elkhart Memorial’s Tryston Swartz and Dylan Landgren in straight sets. The only unseeded Tiger, Colton Lind, lost to No. 3 John Gerard of Plymouth in straight sets at No. 1 singles. Wawasee lost all five of its matches to open the tourney. Dylan Staley fell 6-1, 6-2 to NorthWood’s Jared Hoffman at No. 1 singles, and Nathan Perek dropped a 6-4, 6-2 decision to Concord’s Nate Slabach in No. 3 singles. Evan Krueger and Tim Conley lost to Concord’s brothers duo of Travis and Nathan Hermon at No. 1 doubles. At No. 2 doubles, Graham Perek and Mason Gray fell to Goshen’s Diego Torres and Nathaniel Wertz in straight sets. The tournament continues at 4:30 p.m. today with semifinals in both the championship and consolation brackets. The finals will start at 9 a.m. Saturday.
