The original section of the Kosciusko County Justice Building is having sections of its sewer pipe replaced. County Administrator Ron Robinson told the Kosciusko County Commissioners today a sewer project was recently completed that replaced 40 feet of sewer pipe in the basement of the justice building. Another 25-foot section was replaced in the building last week. Robinson said the old sewer pipes don’t pose any sort of health concern to county employees. The pipe replacement is coming in the original part of the building that was completed in April 1982. Robinson also said the cost is figured into his maintenance budget and that he has used Weed Septic in Warsaw to do the work. Robinson told the commissioners he would have to purchase a new water heater for the county’s work release building. Robinson said it would cost $6,000 to purchase a new one. Bob Weaver, county health department, told the commissioners the state has new sewage codes that went into effect Jan. 1 that had to be reflected in the county ordinances. Weaver said the changes were slight ones. Kosciusko Area Bus Service director Matt Boren gave the commissioners first-quarter claims and said he expects one more purchasing cycle using federal stimulus money. Bids for four new trucks, an asphalt distributor and a chip spreader were opened this morning. County Highway Superintendent Scott Tilden gave the commissioners his 2010 operations report. Kosciusko County Sheriff Rocky Goshert gave the commissioners 2010 statistics from his department. The sheriff’s department received 27,289 calls for service in 2010.
