Sectional Pairings Announced For 41st Annual Girls State Tournament

The sectional pairings for the 41st annuals girls basketball state tournament were released by the IHSAA Monday evening, and Class 3A No. 4 Tippecanoe Valley will begin its quest for a return trip to the state finals with a first-round game against county foe Wawasee. Valley, last year’s state runner-up, will host the six-team Sectional 21 and play Wawasee in the first game of the evening on Feb. 2, followed by Lakeland and NorthWood. On Feb. 5 in Akron, West Noble will play the winner of the Valley/Wawasee game, followed by Fairfield and either Lakeland or NorthWood in the other semifinal. Warsaw, the only other Times-Union area team to win a sectional title last year, will play in the seven-team Class 4A sectional at Goshen High School. The Lady Tigers will play Elkhart Central on Feb. 2 in the evening’s only game. The following night, Elkhart Memorial and fourth-ranked Penn, new to the sectional this year, will square off, followed by Northridge and the host Lady RedHawks. On Feb. 5, Concord will play either Warsaw or Central. In Class 2A, there are area teams in Sectional 35 at Central Noble and in Sectional 37 at Rochester. At Central Noble, No. 7 Whitko will play Bremen in the only game on Feb. 2. The following night, Fremont will meet Prairie Heights, followed by Westview and LaVille. The host school drew the bye and will play either Bremen or Whitko in the first semifinal game on Feb. 5. At Rochester, Manchester will play Oak Hill in the only game scheduled for Feb. 2. The following night, Lewis Cass will play Southwood, and second-ranked Rochester will play Northfield. Wabash will play either Oak Hill or Manchester in the first semifinal game on Feb. 5. The Triton Lady Trojans will play in the six-team Class 1A Sectional 51 at Culver Community High School. Fifth-ranked Argos will open the sectional against the host school on Feb. 2, followed by North Miami and Triton. LaCrosse will play either Argos or Culver in the first semifinal game on Feb. 5, followed by South Central against either North Miami or Triton. Sectional championship games at 64 sites around the state are scheduled for Feb. 6. Sectional winners will play in four-team regionals on Feb. 13.
