WINONA LAKE – With the new season upon us, Christian Performing Artists Fellowship invites the public to attend the first of the Second Sunday Series for 2012-13.
This month’s concert is titled “The Season Begins!”, featuring the principle trumpet of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, Marvin “Chappy” Perry. Included in the program are a monologue titled “Honey, I’m a Leprechaun,” a solo piano piece by Liszt, a four-hand piano suite and a sonata for cello and piano.
The evening will conclude with the singing of a few hymn favorites.
Marvin C. Perry II is presently employed with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, which he joined in 1975 as principal trumpet. Born and raised in Birmingham, Ala., he earned his bachelor’s of music degree from the Eastman School of Music and his master’s of music education degree from the University of Montevallo.
The University of Montevallo also conferred upon him the President's Award for outstanding achievement in the performing arts and named him distinctive alumnus.
His primary teachers include Arnold Jacobs, Lloyd Geisler, Sidney Mear, John Head and Walter Moeck.
While at the Eastman School of Music he performed with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra and recorded on the CRI and Vox labels with the Eastman Wind Ensemble and the Eastman Brass Ensemble.
He played three years with the U.S. Army Band in Washington, D.C., where he appeared as soloist with the band as well as with other ensembles in the area. Following that, he performed for two seasons with the Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (now the Alabama Symphony).
The Second Sunday Series is free and open to the public. It will be at Rodeheaver Auditorium (between Park Ave and 9th in Winona Lake) Oct. 14 at 7:30 p.m. The doors open at 7 p.m.
