Second Car-Train Crash In 3 DaysFor the second time in less than a week, Warsaw Police Dept. responded to a car and train accident.

Around 7:35 a.m. today, a car collided with a train at the tracks at the Main Street crossing.

All crossings south of Arthur Street were closed this morning, and crossings north of Lyon Street and south of Ranch Road were open.According to the Warsaw Police Department, Annie Ryan, 92, Warsaw, was westbound in a 1994 Mercedes when she drove into the side of the lead engine of a northbound Norfolk and Southern train. The car hit the second fuel tank on the engine, which had two engines and was pulling 67 cars.

Ryan reportedly told police she was taking a dog to the veterinarian and did not think the train was that close.

Ryan was transported to Kosciusko Community Hospital by Multi-Township EMS with knee and rib pain. The dog was taken to a vet by Warsaw animal control.

A witness told police Ryan pulled in front of her on Main Street and was driving about 15 miles per hour. The witness said that Ryan did not slow or brake before hitting the side of the train. The witness also said that the crossing lights and train whistle all were working before the collision.

On Friday afternoon, police responded to a car-train accident at the Market Street crossing that kept most of downtown Warsaw crossings closed for about three hours.

Around 3:04 p.m. Friday, Donna Plummer, 65, of Heron Boulevard, Warsaw, was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Malibu that collided with a 109-car southbound Norfolk and Southern train.

According to the Warsaw Police Department, the train struck Plummer's car and pushed it into a pole southeast of the crossing.

Plummer suffered an possible broken arm and was taken to KCH for treatment by Multi-Township EMS.

Plummer reportedly told police that she never saw the railroad crossing lights and didn't hear the train whistle. She said she had stopped her car at the crossing and bent over to pick up a water bottle. When she leaned back, she saw the train coming out the of corner of her eye and tried to back up, but could not get her vehicle in gear.

A witness behind Plummer told police that the railroad crossing lights and train whistle all were working before the collision.

The stopped train blocked railroad intersections south of Anchorage Road (CR 200N) to south of Ranch Road causing traffic problems for several hours.
