Second Candidate Forum Set For Tuesday

A forum featuring Republican candidates slated in the May 8 primary election is set for Tuesday.

The event will be held at 6:30 p.m in the Warsaw Community High School Performing Arts Center.

The evening will begin with  brief comments from candidates for Kosciusko County sheriff – Tony Ciriello, Kyle Dukes, Rocky Goshert and Chris Rager.

Following will be comments from township trustee candidates.

A question-and-answer forum is next, featuring state- and county-level candidates as follows:





• District 22 Indiana House of Representatives – incumbent Curt Nisly and challenger Kim Cates.

• District 18 Indiana House of Representatives – incumbent Dave Wolkins and challenger Russ Reahard.

• Kosciusko County Commissioner Southern District – incumbent Bob Conley and challenger DeLynn Geiger.

Questions for state candidates will cover prospective legislation regarding hate crimes and employment discrimination, gun licensing, abortion, opioids, recreational marijuana and school choice.

Topics of questions for county candidates will include the wheel tax/road funding, jail overcrowding, funding for quality of life projects, the opioid crisis, importance of township government and "name your top issue."

Each candidate will be given two minutes to introduce themselves and outline their qualifications.

When answering questions, candidates will be allowed one minute per answer.

If a candidate mentions another candidate by name during a response, the candidate mentioned will be afforded a 30-second rebuttal.

All Republican candidates  are invited to attend the event and will be allowed to provide campaign literature to those in attendance.

The event is sponsored by the Kosciusko County Chamber of Commerce, the Kosciusko County Republican Women and the Times-Union. Moderator for the event will be Gary Gerard, Times-Union general manager.
