A South Dakota man is being held on $105,000 bond after he led police on a pursuit in February, damaging several police vehicles.
Ronald Dale Elkins, 36, of South Dakota, and also showing an address of 139 CR 4, lot 25, Middlebury, was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail at 12:43 p.m. Monday and faces a Level 6 felony charge for resisting law enforcement and a Class A misdemeanor charge for criminal mischief.
According to the probable cause affidavit filed March 20 in Kosciusko Superior Court III, on Feb. 29 Warsaw Police officers were asked to assist in a police pursuit that was coming into Kosciusko County from Elkhart County. The vehicle was a gold 1999 Ford F-150 pickup truck with a South Dakota license plate.
During the pursuit, according to court papers, stop sticks were used, flattening one of Elkins’ tires. However, Elkins continued and throughout the pursuit his vehicle crashed into several officers’ vehicles, including causing one officer’s vehicle to spin around.
The damage to WPD vehicles was listed at more than $750 but less than $50,000.
